In 2014, the Centers for Disease Control found that adolescents were just as likely to die from suicide as to die in traffic accidents. What are the relevant factors—psychological, developmental, neurocognitive, sociocultural, and environmental—contributing to the increasing prevalence of adolescent suicidal behavior, and hence, may be targets for more effective intervention, treatment, and social policy?
